I saw mention of an up-and-coming mode called Pactor-II, which uses DSP
technology to increase throughput. Can anyone tell me more about this
mode? When will it be available? Should I hold off buying a multimode
controller until this mode is available?

Actually, Jeff, since you already know what the show topics are, you have
the option of not listening to something you don't want to hear. And if you
are being charged to listen you have a point, but I haven't paid a
broadcaster yet for delivering an RF signal to the vicinity of my antenna
and receiver, nor have I been asked to do so, with the notable and IMHO
worthwhile exception of PBS and NPR.

Don't give the IRS any more ideas about what constitutes a profit. If they
start to think that there is some monetary value to education, they'll want
28% of your college tuition too!

A quick peek into the FCC frequency allocation charts says that 154.46375
is allocated primarily for electric utility one-way communications for
load control. When in doubt, check with the guys in charge!

It had better not be, based on the above. That frequency is allocated
nationwide for utilities, using 350W output stations. Anything else is
secondary, and not just on paper at those power levels!
